The Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer and the second ranking officer of the university, acting for the President in his absence. The Provost and Senior Vice President supervises allocation of resources in academic areas, improvement of instruction, coordination of instructional activities, development and improvement of research activities, and evaluation of university academic activity. The Provost and Senior Vice President is responsible for all academic personnel appointments and policies.

Associate and assistant provosts share the duties and responsibilities of the Provost and Senior Vice President and may act as the Provost and Senior Vice President's designee in his absence.

Biography

Joe Glover has been Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs since July 2008. Dr. Glover arrived at UF in 1983 as an assistant professor in mathematics. He chaired the Mathematics Department from 1993 to 1998 and served as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences from 1998 to 2001. Beginning in 2001, Dr. Glover served as Associate Provost for Academic Affairs for six years and as Interim Provost for nine months. Dr. Glover chaired the Task Force on the Future of the University of Florida, helped develop the university's strategic plan, and represented the university on the executive board of the New World School of the Arts. He served as Interim Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2007-2008.

Dr. Glover received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Cornell University and his master's and doctoral degrees in mathematics from the University of California, San Diego. He taught at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Rochester before joining the University of Florida faculty. He held a National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellowship at UCSD in 1982. His awards include an NSF-CNRS fellowship held at the Universite de Grenoble II, a CLAS Teaching Award and a mentoring award from the McKnight Foundation. His research in probability theory, stochastic processes, and potential theory has been supported by the NSF, the AFOSR, and the NSA.

Ms. Cheryl May

As the provost's assistant, Ms. May aids the provost with daily operations and appointments to ensure efficient management of daily activities and travel. In addition to calendar and travel, Ms. May serves as liaison to the Board of Trustees Educational Policy and Strategy Committee ensuring the agenda and supplemental information are provided to the trustees as well as assisting individual trustees with additional information as requested. She works with the Faculty Senate administrative assistant on new degree proposals to ensure the degree has all the approvals needed for implementation as well as notification to the Board of Governors office for the new degree to be placed into the state's inventory. Ms. May is also responsible for notifying the Board of Governors when new centers or institutes are created or changes are made to current centers/institutes.

Ms. Nancy Bibbo

Ms. Nancy Bibbo, Executive Secretary, serves as office receptionist, managing all incoming calls and visitors to the office. Ms. Bibbo provides secretarial support to the executive assistant compiling and verifying various information, preparation and distribution of various correspondences, compilation of spreadsheets and gathering of various data. She prepares travel reimbursements, ensures proper distribution of incoming mail and packages to the office and manages the certificate participation documents. She cross-trains with other staff within the office to assist with various projects. Ms. Bibbo assists with analyzing office operations in terms of equipment and materials needed and is the key operator for office machines, copier, fax, etc. She makes recommendations and handles ordering of supplies and equipment as appropriate.

Ms. Gaura McLeod

Ms. Gaura McLeod, Senior Secretary, serves as the first point of contact for the Office of the Provost, managing incoming calls, visitors and the booking of the Provost's Office conference room. She ensures the proper distribution of incoming mail and packages. Ms. McLeod organizes several office events including the Provost's Faculty Lunch series and various receptions. She coordinates travel arrangements for office staff and prepares travel reimbursements. She also runs errands for the office and helps to monitor and maintain office supplies. Ms. McLeod coordinates with other Provost's Office staff to assist with various projects.

Ms. Dawn Riedy

Dawn R. Riedy, Coordinator of Budgets, Provost's Office.   Mrs. Riedy’s duties including managing operating funds in the general operating accounts belonging to the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, overseeing the expenditures and reporting requirements of all grant funds managed within the Office of the Provost; completing the annual Information Resources Management report; and managing the university Letter of Appointment process.

Ms. Rita Steff

Mrs. Rita Steff is an Accountant for the Provost's Budget Office. Mrs. Steff assists with fiscal duties relating to the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. These duties include all aspects of purchasing and payables, personnel and payroll, and reconciling of departmental accounts.
