Morning Session: "Career Flexibility, Diversity, and the World of Academia"
Dr. Bob Drago Penn State University

- Professor Drago will present research concerning the hiding or minimizing of family commitments by university faculty in order to achieve career success. He will also highlight flexibility practices and policies that can reduce the prevalence of such behaviors and increase retention rates for valued faculty. Dr. Drago’s presentation will be focused toward university faculty and staff.
Afternoon Session: "Career Flexibility for Graduate Students"
Dr. Claire Andreasen Iowa State University
- 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- Meeting Room 282
- Dr. Andreasen will discuss career flexibility policies and how these practices can affect graduate students. This session is designed for grad students, but is open to the University community.
Evening Session: "Work-Life Policies and Practices that Make a Difference"
Ellen Galinsky Families and Work Institute

- Rion Ballroom
- Ellen Galinsky is President and Co-Founder of Families and Work Institute. She has authored over 35 books and reports, including the ground-breaking Ask The Children: The Breakthrough Study That Reveals How to Succeed at Work and Parenting. She has published more than 100 articles in academic journals, books and magazines. Ellen’s session is a public lecture which is free and open to the community.
Spotlight
As one of the five winners of The Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Faculty Career Flexibility selected in July 2006, UF received an accelerator award grant in the amount of $250,000 to enhance faculty career flexibility. The four major goals outlined in the accelerator plan are as follows:
- Creating new career flexibility policies and programs
- Expanding and improving current policies and programs
- Increasing the number of faculty using these policies and programs
- Widening acceptance of career flexibility within the university community, including by faculty.
