Professor Stephen Perz is the principal investigator of the USAID-funded Amazon Basin Conservation Initiative, in which UF will serve as the prime institution in a consortium for a five-year, $6.5 million project to build capacity across national boundaries in the southwestern Amazon for shared watershed management, sustainable development planning along a highway corridor, and participatory environmental planning and governance. Under Perz's leadership, UF will serve as the primary institution in a consortium of universities.
