Dr. Robert A. Burne, professor and chair of the College of Dentistry’s Department of Oral Biology, is a fellow of the prestigious American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is internationally known for his research of the molecular mechanisms that disease-causing oral bacteria utilize to modulate virulence in response to environmental influences. He is also the recipient of several NIH/National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIH/NIDCR) R01 awards and has authored more than 60 published papers. In addition to his many honors, Dr. Burne has distinguished himself through service as president of the Microbiology and Immunology Section of the International Association for Dental Research, as a member of the NIDCR Caries Technical Advisory Panel, and as a member of the editorial board for the journal Infection and Immunity.
