Professor Dee Williams’ efforts as associate dean for Clinical Affairs has contributed to the service missions of the university and the College of Nursing. Since she became associate dean in 1996, the College has developed a formal system of academic nursing practice. This clinical enterprise generates more than $1 million per year in revenue, provides multiple clinical education sites for graduate students and practice sites for more than 20 faculty members, and delivers health care to Florida residents. Williams has provided leadership for Archer Family Health Care, a community-based, primary-care clinic established in 2000. This nationally recognized, nurse-managed health center was the first of its kind in Florida, providing quality clinical education experiences for undergraduate and graduate students and health care to uninsured and underserved patients. In 2005, Williams secured a highly competitive federal grant in excess of $700,000 to support clinic expansion. By virtue of her accomplishments, the College of Nursing is a participant in national policy discussions related to the delivery, documentation, and reimbursement of nurse-managed health care.
