Professor Kilberg’s research, which focuses on the transcriptional regulation of the human asparagine synthetase gene in response to amino acid deprivation and the use of asparaginase in the treatment of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia, has garnered much recognition and many awards. He currently has more than $3 million in NIH funding and was awarded the College of Medicine Faculty Research Award in 1992, the UF Research Foundation Professorship in 1997, and the Professorial Excellence Program (PEP) Award in 1998. Dr. Kilberg’s service includes chair of the Nutrient-Gene Interactions, Research Interest Section, of the American Society for Nutritional Sciences (2005-06) and three terms on The Journal of Biological Chemistry Editorial Board (2002-07). In addition, he has organized several international symposia and has written chapters for both the Annual Review of Nutrition and the Annual Review of Biochemistry. His role as an educator is widely acclaimed and recognized. He has received the UF Doctoral Mentoring Award (2006), the College of Medicine Exemplary Teacher Award (2004, 2005, 2006), and the College of Medicine Dissertation Mentoring Award (2006).
