Dr. Michael Binford has demonstrated outstanding performance in research, academic program development, and service to UF.  To support research, he has attracted approximately $1.7 million of external funding as a principal investigator.  Dr. Binford has stimulated development of Environmental Studies in the department by creating a departmental computer laboratory dedicated to Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems.  He also has fostered productive collaborative research linkages across the traditional subdisciplinary boundaries of his own academic discipline and other disciplines campus-wide; he is a driving force behind the creation of interdisciplinary specialization in GIS-CLAS, Architecture and Engineering, etc.  Dr. Binford has supervised or co-chaired 24 graduate students and has served on 58 committees within the department and 23 committees as an external member.  In addition, Dr. Binford’s service has extended to several college committees.  He is currently chair of College Tenure and Promotion.
