Professor Kim Walsh-Childers is currently working on a $143,790 National Cancer Institute grant, which focuses on the content and quality of breast cancer information that women can find in mainstream consumer magazines and through typical Internet searches. The primary purpose of this study is to determine whether these channels provide accurate and most-needed information. Prior to the grant, Walsh-Childers spent a year in Ireland as a Fulbright Scholar (2004-05). This entailed teaching undergraduate- and graduate-level journalism ethics courses at the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) School of Media and researching the impact of news coverage on health policy development. While at DIT, Walsh-Childers established the first formal exchange program between UF and any Irish university, involving semester-long exchanges between the two universities and paving the way for a broader exchange program.
