Dr. James Hobert is an internationally recognized expert of the theory of Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms, which are used to approximate features of intractable probability distributions, and of connections between the Markov chain theory and the statistical decision theory.  He has published extensively on these topics in top-tier journals and is now associate editor for two of those journals: Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Series B  and Annals of Statistics.  Dr. Hobert's achievements were recognized last summer when he was named Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, the world premier organization for theoretical statistics.
