Passport to Transfer - Travel Tip 4
Navigating Your Transfer
Many of UF's colleges accept majors with a minimum overall 2.0 GPA. Some majors, however, require a GPA that exceeds 2.0. Consult the Index to Majors and Their Colleges/Schools located at the University Registrar, the Undergraduate Catalog at http://www.registrar.ufl.edu/catalog.html or your intended department's academic adviser for specific information.
In addition, each UF major has a preprofessional GPA requirement for courses required for admission to the major. Often, this preprofessional GPA requirement is higher than the overall GPA. Failure to meet either of these minimum GPA requirements can delay or prevent your admission to a UF major.
Transfer Admission Requirements
- Submit a State University System application six to nine months before the term begins or complete the online UF application accessible from the community college relations site. Application deadlines can be located at http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/appdates.html
- Submit the $30 nonrefundable application fee.
- Submit the high school record (if verification of foreign language is necessary) and all postsecondary institution transcripts; SAT/ACT test scores are required for any student applying to teacher certification programs. Official scores should be sent to UF directly from the testing agency.
- Submit documentation of two sequential courses of foreign language in secondary school (via the high school transcript) or 8 - 10 sequential semester hours at the postsecondary level, or document an equivalent level of proficiency. Note: This is an admission requirement. Additional course work may be required for your major.
- Apply by the deadline.
- Submit proof of immunization.
- Apply to a specific college and major.
- Understand that meeting UF’s minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to a specific college or major.
Community College Graduates
Students who have completed an A.A. degree from a Florida public community college will be given transfer admission priority.
The A.A. degree should include:
- 60 semester hours of appropriate academic work,
- an approved general education program of at least 36 semester hours,
- a grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in all college-level academic courses,
- acceptable scores on all sections of CLAST, or equivalent,
- completion of the Writing and Math Requirement, and
- completion of the foreign language admission requirement.
Applicants With Fewer Than 60 Hours
(This includes high school dual enrollees with 30 or more college credits and early admits who enrolled half-time at a community college and broke academic ties with their high school.)
Freshman and sophomore level transfer eligibility is extremely limited. Students should complete the A.A. degree before applying to UF. Without the A.A. degree, transfer students must meet all of the requirements that apply to UF freshmen and sophomores.
Transfer students with < 60 must, at a minimum:
- meet freshman admission standards,
- be in good standing and eligible to return to any institution previously attended, and
- have a competitive college academic GPA as computed by UF. (Without an A.A., UF counts all attempts of a course; grades of E, I, NG, U and WF are computed as failing grades.)
Computer Policy
Access to and on-going use of a computer will be required of all students to complete their degree programs successfully. University policy expects each student to acquire computer hardware and software appropriate to his or her degree program. Competency in the basic use of a computer is a university goal for UF students. Class assignments may require use of a computer, academic advising and registration can be done by computer, and university correspondence is often sent via e-mail.
While the university offers limited access to computers through its computer labs, most students are expected to purchase or lease a computer that is capable of dial-up or network connection to the Internet, graphical access to the World Wide Web and productivity functions such as word processing and spreadsheet calculation. Costs of a computer will be included in financial aid considerations.
You should study UF computer policy requirements available from the UF Home Page or found directly at http://www.circa.ufl.edu/computers. At the bottom of that page, there are more specific topics concerning the computer requirement.
