Passport to Transfer - Travel Tip 2
Preparing to Transfer to UF
Plan Your Community College Curriculum for an Easy Transfer
Passport to Transfer is intended to act as your guide, whether you are a freshman in community college or whether you are about to complete your A.A. degree and transfer to UF. The information and services described here can help you choose a UF major, schedule community college courses that satisfy UF requirements while you are completing your A.A. degree and transfer smoothly to your UF major.
The University of Florida consists of 21 colleges and schools and more than 200 individual degree options. UF is a large, complex institution with more than 47,000 students and endless possibilities for intellectual and academic growth. However, you may find the number of options for an undergraduate degree somewhat overwhelming, especially when you are searching for a major and a potential career.
While You are in Community College
Many community college students wait too late to determine what SUS institution they wish to attend and what major they desire. Those decisions need to be made early in your community college studies so you can have proper coursework to transfer. Community college students who are pursuing an A.A. degree and desiring to transfer to UF should pay careful attention to the same criteria that apply to UF freshmen and sophomores. Identifying a major is important. Following a plan of study similar to your UF freshmen and sophomore counterparts is important.
Liberal use of the features in ISIS, the Integrated Student Information System, described in more detail in Transfer Tip 6, or acessing in the Undergraduate Catalog to plan your major's first two years of study, will provide you the same information given to UF students.
Once your major is chosen, pay attention to
- course sequencing and preprofessional courses,
- GPA requirements for those courses required for entry into the major, and
- overall GPA requirements.
Community college transfers should understand that admission to UF following completion of the A.A. degree is synonymous with admission to a major. You cannot be admitted to UF unless a major in a particular college has accepted you. Meeting UF admissions minimums does not guarantee admission at the junior level. The important point for a transfer student to remember is to satisfy the requirements for admission to the major.UF recommends that transfer applicants see their community college advisor frequently and access information on UF degree and tracking requirements. If questions remain, you should use the telephone numbers in this brochure to contact the UF department well before you plan to transfer.
