Solid and valuable content delivered in a creative and entertaining manner form the keystone of Stuart Schwartz's teaching. Schwartz, on the faculty since 1974, is best known for his human diversity course, 'Exceptional People.' Each semester he reaches out to more than 650 students from all majors as he helps them explore diversity issues with an emphasis on knowledge about and comfort with persons who are different. His teaching involves role-playing, lectures, debates, discussion groups, films, and the use of the latest in technology to engage and challenge his students. He is the author of four college texts, he has written 27 books for secondary level special education students and he is the Co-Principal Investigator of UF's Transition Center. Schwartz has often presented at other universities on the topic of large class instruction and he has twice before received the College of Education Teacher of the Year Award.
