These are some of the many services available on campus. There are numerous other services and resources availablity in the community.

Computers, Technology and Comumunications Services

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides direction and strategic planning for the University of Florida in information delivery and computing standards, resources, and management. OIT units include Academic Technology, UF Computing and Network Services, Web Administration, and the Data Infrastructure Group (see below). An advisory structure consisting of the main Information Technology Advisory Council (ITAC) and several committees has been established to bring together the IT leaders on campus to participate in technology visioning, planning, and problem solving. The ITAC makes policy recommendations for university-wide consideration and adoption.

OIT - Academic Technology

Academic Technology (AT) provides resources, technical assistance, and equipment to assist UF faculty, staff, and students. The three general divisions of AT include support for instructional technology, media services, and teaching/learning:

  • The Center for Instructional Technology and Training (CITT) provides training, technical support and access to equipment for development of multimedia for instruction.
  • CIRCA (Center for Instructional & Research Computing Resources) manages computer classrooms and labs, provides computer accounts, consulting support, curriculum services support, and software distribution. GatorLink is a set of computer services, including Email, available to nearly everyone at the University of Florida. Every student, faculty, and staff member is expected to have a GatorLink account for official communication with the University.
  • Classroom Support installs, maintains, and supports classroom technology, assists instructors with the operation of classroom technology, and circulates A/V and portable multimedia equipment.
OIT - UF CNS

UF CNS (UF Computing and Network Services, formerly NERDC) provides large-scale computing, networking, and telecommunications services for the University of Florida and for other state educational institutions and agencies in northern Florida. The Data Center facilities are used for instructional, administrative, and research computing. UF CNS also manages Internet and intranet services for UF, and maintains the campus network that connects the various buildings to each other and to the worldwide Internet.

OIT - UF Web Admin

UF Web Administration (WebAdmin) coordinates the overall university Web presence by providing consulting and outreach assistance to other university offices and departments on campus. It is also responsible for ensuring that all Web page development meets UF's Acceptable Use Policy standards in order to meet the needs of UF's critical audiences.

OIT - UF Bridges

UF Bridges is a university office dedicated to improving UF’s business processes by implementing and maintaining Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) services. MyUFL.edu is the main portal for all UF business and personnel functions. The myUFL portal provides UF faculty, staff and students with direct, easy access to UF’s online resources, information, and myUFL systems. The financial, payroll, human resources, and Enterprise Reporting online systems are accessible only through the myUFL portal.

Additional Computing Information

Information Technology Security Awareness (ITSA) provides faculty, staff, and students the necessary information to protect the integrity of research data, class papers, and the privacy of certain information. Steps needed to make sure these areas remain uncompromised may include physical protections, wise operating practices, or sophisticated configurable hardware / software combinations.

The Health Science Center and IFAS administer substantial independent IT operations and are coordinated with OIT functions for mutual benefit. The IT Center in the Health Science Center provides computing and networking services to faculty and staff of the Health Science Center. The office of Information Technologies in IFAS provides computing and networking services to UF/IFAS faculty and staff.

Most departments, colleges, centers, institutes, and other units utilize centrally administered computing and networking services while maintaining a staff of IT employees to assist in technical and end-user support. Check with your unit for more information about local IT contacts.

Document and Mailing Services

Document Design and Duplication

Graphic artists with UF Mail and Document Services can work with you on design and layout of practically any project.

IFAS Communication Services provides UF/IFAS faculty, staff, and students with a full range of communication services and products, including graphic design, news and media relations, educational video, photography, distance education, media duplication, and educational media distribution.

Biomedical Media Services provides multimedia support services to the faculty, staff, and students of the Health Science Center, University of Florida, and Shands Hospital. Services include graphics, photography and film processing, digital imaging and printing, and television.

Mailing

UF Mail Services processes and delivers U.S. Mail and internal campus mail. They assist with mailing needs for nonprofit mailing, standard (A) class bulk rate mail and presorting. They also have mail address management services to help you streamline large mailing lists. UF Mail Services sells postage stamps and mailing supplies, and mails packages at U.S. Postal Service rates at their Radio Road location. Mail is accepted until 3:30 p.m. for same-day processing at Building 715 Radio Road. A U.S. Postal Service contract station is also located at the Health Science Center MG009.

Facilities Maintenance, Planning, and Construction

The Physical Plant Division maintains the physical environment that enables The University of Florida to achieve its objectives in instruction, research, and public service. Physical Plant Division provides direct services, including repair and maintenance services, for academic buildings, classrooms, laboratories, administrative offices, rest rooms, common areas, streets, sidewalks, curbs and lawns, campus landscaping, and utility systems. Should you require services, consult the Physical Plant Division's Administration-Division Directory for the appropriate contact.

Food Service

Gator Dining Services is the official food service provider of the University of Florida, and operates a variety of facilities on campus. Dining locations include the Fresh Food Company and Burger King on Inner Road near Broward Residence Hall, the Gator Corner Dining Center on the corner of North South Drive and Stadium Road, food courts at the Hub and the Reitz Union, the Racquet Club next to the Student Health Care Center, and the Sun Terrace at the Health Science Center. Java City coffee stations are located in the Hub, Reitz Union, Engineering building, Little Hall, Dental School, and Shands Hospital.

Gator Dining Services also provides full service catering for all occasions including banquets, parties, receptions, luncheons, and coffee breaks. The Classic Fare Catering office is located in the Reitz Union.

ID Cards

The Gator 1 Card is the official University of Florida picture ID card. It is required of all students, faculty, and staff. Many activities on campus are only available upon presentation of the Gator 1 Card. Gator 1 Cards can be obtained at the HUB. Replacement of a card requires a $10 fee.

Information for Institutional Planning

The Office of Institutional Planning and Research is responsible for providing the university management with information that supports institutional planning, policy formation and decision making; for coordinating responses to inquiries for university-related information and serving as a comprehensive source for information about the institution; and for administering the Florida Board of Education data collection/reporting system on campus.

News and Public Relations

The Office of University Relations promotes positive relations between the University of Florida and its many constituents; enhances internal and external communications; helps the university achieve its goal of being one of the nation's best public universities; and integrates and coordinates the university's various public relations, communications, publications and news operations to provide the most efficient and effective public relations efforts.

News and Public Affairs

The UF News Bureau is the primary news and media relations office for the University of Florida. The office is responsible for disseminating news and stories about the university and responds to media requests for information, story ideas, and faculty experts. With a wide variety of services, NAPA assists faculty, staff and students in communicating with local, state, national and international media and the public. NAPA consists of a print section, a full-service broadcast department, a graphics and publications section and complete still photography services.

News & Public Affairs serves the central administration and the education and general colleges, in particular. They are available for media training, advice on working with reporters and editing and other professional consulting. Staff members confer daily with public/media relations professionals at the Health Science Center, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, Shands HealthCare, and other communications offices on campus.

University of Florida Communications Network

The UF Communications Network (UFCN) is a network of UF communicators, faculty and professionals working to provide news and information about the university and enhance communications with UF's publics. The network is charged by the president with providing more efficient and effective communications, greater use of existing resources and enhanced public relations in support of efforts to strengthen the university. UFCN maintains the Writing Stylebook, a resource designed to achieve as much consistency as possible in written material emanating from UF.

Calendar of Events

The News & Events web site provides campus news along with current and ongoing events, administrative announcements, and links to other news and information sources. You can subscribe to receive News & Events via e-mail. A searchable Calendar of Events is also available online.

Telecommunications

Telecommunications, a unit of the Office of Information Technology, provides all telephone and communications services to the core campus for administrative, faculty, staff and Health Sciences Center use.

University telephone operator assistance is available 7 days a week, from 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. (dial 392-3261). The operators help provide employee and student telephone numbers and help with emergency calls.

Teleconferencing

Teleconferencing is offered through a variety of vendors. Departments are free to select these vendores or any other vendors for their teleconferencing needs. When contacting a vendor, let them know you are a tax exempt, state agency. Telecommunications has conference speakerphones available for rent on a daily basis.

Transportation and Parking

Parking

Faculty needing to park a motor vehicle on campus during restricted hours (weekdays, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm unless signage indicates otherwise) must display a valid decal or permit. A valid UF parking decal allows the holder the opportunity to utilize the parking facilities that decal is specifically designated for (eg. Commuter, Orange, Red, etc.), parking facilities marked "All Decal" and other restricted areas depending on the decal. It is important to note that a parking decal does not guarantee the holder a parking space. The decal you may purchase is determined by several eligibility requirements.

Bus Service

Gainesville's Regional Transit System (RTS) provides bus service covering the UF campus and the City of Gainesville. UF students and employees may ride any Regional Transit System bus fare-free with a valid UF ID. Most RTS buses are equipped with bicycle racks so you can take your bike with you (each rack holds up to two bicycles). Later Gator service lets you ride safely at night. Later Gator service is provided Thursday through Saturday.

Bicycles

Bicyclists must obey the State of Florida bicycle laws when riding a bicycle on campus. If you need more information you can contact the University Police Department (UPD) Community Services Division (392-1409). Bicycle registration is not required, but UPD encourages everyone to register his or her bicycle to aid in recovery in the case of theft. To register your bicycle, simply stop by UPD's offices or stop any UPD patrol person and ask them to register your bicycle.

Carpooling

University of Florida faculty and staff interested in carpooling to campus may receive free parking by participating in this program.  To participate in this program contact the Transportation and Parking Services Customer Service Office (392-6655) or visit the Customer Service Office at 112 North South Drive (corner of North South Drive and Mowry Road).

Other Transportation Services

Gator Lift provides fast, dependable and comfortable on campus transportation to members of the UF community with permanent and temporary disabilities.

SNAP (Student Nighttime Auxiliary Patrol) provides nightly campus escorts upon request. The service is staffed by students equipped by and in coordination with the University Police Department.

Vending Services

The University of Florida operates a variety of vending (small value transaction) machines at locations throughout campus. Machine types include beverages, snacks, laundry washers and dryers, copiers, laser printers, change machines, and card value centers. Depending upon the machine type and location, vending operations can be initiated by coins, paper currency or Gator 1 cards with established vending account balances.

Veterans Affairs

The UF Veterans Affairs Office provides educational support services to veterans, national guardsmen, reservists and eligible dependents enrolled at UF.

Campus Resources

Audio-Visual Media

The audio-visual material in the Media Resource Library collection has been purchased in cooperation with various departments and is a shared resource intended for classroom instruction by faculty.

Video & Collaboration Services provides video related systems, technical services, planning, and consulting in support of educational and research goals at the University of Florida. Services include: videoconferencing, video production, streaming, and storage, and satellite uplinks and downlinks.

AT Testing and Evaluation provides the following services: scanning and scoring of exams, scan document development, gradebook service, placement testing, standardized test administration, and other resources.

Biomedical Media Services provides multimedia support services to the faculty, staff, and students of the Health Science Center, University of Florida, and Shands Hospital. Services include graphics, photography and film processing, digital imaging and printing, and television.

IFAS Communication Services provides UF/IFAS faculty, staff, and students with a full range of communication services and products, including graphic design, news and media relations, educational video, photography, distance education, media duplication, and educational media distribution.

Bookstores

Bookstores on the UF campus are managed by the Follett Higher Education Group and are part of the efollet.com bookstore network. Bookstore locations include the main bookstore in the Reitz Union, the Law School bookstore, Health Science Center bookstore, and Veterinary Medicine bookstore.

Campus Map and Campus Tours

The online campus map allows you to locate any UF building. You can also take an online virtual tour of the campus. The Office of Admissions provides Campus tours at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 392-1365 or fill out the online form to arrange a tour. Walking tours are available on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. from the J. Wayne Reitz Union. Call 392-1649 for information.

Child Care and Schools

Baby Gator is the University of Florida's Educational Research Center for Child Development. It offers a high quality preschool and infant/toddler center for children of students, staff, and faculty of the university. In addition, Baby Gator provides research and training opportunities for students and faculty members in education, nursing, psychology, sociology, and other fields of study.

KinderCare operates a facility on the University of Florida campus locatred on the corner of Museum Road and Village Drive.

P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School, a unit in the College of Education of the University of Florida, was established in 1934 to be a center of educational innovation for students, K-12. The mission of a Developmental Research School is to serve as a vehicle for research, demonstration, and evaluation regarding teaching and learning while utilizing the resources available on a state university campus. Continuing Education

The University of Florida Division of Continuing Education (DOCE) develops and offers continuing education programs designed to meet a wide range of personal and professional educational and learning needs and makes available to all units of the University, effective and efficient services supporting continuing education programs originated by those units and funded from participant fees.

Correspondence Study and Distance Learning

The Department of Correspondence Study and Distance Learning provides time-tested correspondence study as well as high tech, on-line learning that includes an extensive curriculum of college credit courses, professional development opportunities, and high school courses.

TREEO

The Center for Training, Research, and Education for Environmental Occupations (TREEO), is a world leader in educational programming for people working in areas of environmental impact. Courses cover hands-on issues of pollution prevention and control, cutting edge information in management education, and in-depth policy development and response.

Conferences and Seminars

The Department of Conferences and Seminars provides program coordination and management services to the entire university community that span a spectrum from basic support to a turn-key development and implementation service.

Executive Education

The Leadership Development Institute is focused on leadership development that builds sustainable enterprises. The leadership development system is designed to help leaders at every level — Emerging, Experienced and Executive — transition successfully into greater levels of responsibility and impact.

Disability Resources

UF is required to make reasonable accommodations to the known physical and mental limitations of otherwise qualified individuals with disabilities. The UF Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance Office coordinates the accessibility of all areas of campus to persons with disabilities, and coordinates faculty and staff-related accommodations in the workplace. Information Sessions for academic faculty and student affairs staff are currently available.

The Disability Resources program in the Dean of Students Office coordinates accommodations for students in academic and student activity settings. Students must be registered with the Disability Resources program to be eligible to receive accommodations from the University of Florida.

International Resources

The mission of the UF International Center (UFIC) is to enhance the educational experience and environment of UF's students, faculty and staff by promoting a global perspective. UFIC does that by encouraging the discussion of international issues on campus, assisting UF students to study abroad, helping international students and faculty adjust to life in Gainesville and in many other ways.

UFIC can help faculty join in the internationalization of the campus and the curriculum, which is one of the highest priorities in UF's strategic plan, by assisting them to incorporate study abroad and international content in their courses, to find grant funds and to bring in speakers on international topics.

As home to the Title VI-funded Transnational and Global Issues Center, UFIC also supports international research, curriculum development and outreach activities. UFIC also houses the Peace Corps office on campus and the World Citizenship Program, which provides international internship opportunities to graduate students.

Currently located on the first floor of Grinter Hall, UFIC will be moving to the Hub when that building is renovated.

Libraries

The Libraries of the University of Florida form the largest information resource system in the state of Florida. There are nine UF library locations. All of the libraries serve the university's faculty and students, but each has a special mission to be the primary support of specific colleges and degrees programs, and thus houses collections specific to those disciplines. Purchasing

University Purchasing Division employees help University of Florida departments acquire material goods and services. Uniform procedures relating to the purchase of commodities and services needed in the operation of the university are presented in The Handbook on Business Procedures. This document references statutory requirements of the State of Florida, standard practices of the State University System and rules of the university. Purchasing requirements apply to all purchases of commodities and services whether funded by state appropriation, grants or auxiliaries.

Safety and Emergency Resources

Police Services

The University of Florida Police Department (UPD), located at the intersection of Museum Road and Newell Drive, provides service 24 hours a day, and is an integral part of the university's dedication to developing and maintaining a safe and secure campus through the cooperative efforts of many university departments and community organizations. The UPD publication, UF Together for a Safe Campus is available on their Web site.

All emergency situations involving crime in progress, medical emergency, or fire should be reported immediately to 9-1-1. All campus phones, including pay phones may be used to dial 9-1-1 at no charge. In addition, more than 200 Emergency Blue Phones are located throughout campus and in all parking garages.

Environmental Health and Safety

The Environmental Health and Safety Division (EH&S) is responsible for the implementation of programs to minimize injury to faculty, staff, students, and visitors, and to minimize damage to university property. EH&S includes numerous departments and services including Biological Safety, Fire Safety, Laboratory Safety, and Radiation Control. EH&S is also responsible for Emergency Preparedness.

The Natural Disaster/Hurricane Emergency Plan establishes procedures for implementation in preparation for, during, and following a hurricane or other natural disaster. Each major campus building has a designated Building Emergency Coordinator who is responsible for maintaining a written emergency plan that includes procedures for building evacuation and protection of building facilities and equipment.

University Press of Florida

University Press of Florida, a non-profit publishing house, is both a Type 1 Research Center in the State University System and a publishing business. The Press publishes scholarly books in the arts, humanities, and natural and social sciences and participates in the mission of the State University System through a publishing program that seeks to maintain the professional excellence of American university presses in general and to present the finest national and international scholarship in those academic areas in which we publish. In recognition of the State University System's educational mission and public role, the Press also publishes books of interest and significance for our region and state.

Campus Life

Museums and Galleries

The Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art has a permanent collection of more than 6,000 original works including paintings, sculptures, prints, ceramics, photographs, and cultural objects. Among the artistic traditions represented are those of the Americas, Asia, Africa, Europe and the South Pacific Islands. The museum also features a variety of changing exhibitions, and a full range of educational programs. Admission is free. Museum membership provides additional benefits and discounts on merchandise, programs, and classes.

The Florida Museum of Natural History is Florida's state museum of natural history, dedicated to understanding and preserving biological diversity and cultural heritage. With more than 25 million specimens of amphibians, birds, butterflies, fish, mammals, mollusks, reptiles, vertebrate and invertebrate fossils, recent and fossil plants and associated databases and libraries, the Florida Museum is the largest natural history museum in the Southeast. Admission is free. Museum membership provides additional benefits and discounts, including admission to associated science and children's museums worldwide.

The School of Architecture Gallery hosts regular displays of student projects, and also showcases traveling exhibitions of significant works from noteworthy architects past and present, providing you with exposure to historical precedents and contemporary currents in the field.

The School of Art and Art History supports three campus galleries. The University Gallery hosts six exhibitions per year that bring current ideas in contemporary art to UF students and the surrounding community. The Focus Gallery provides exhibition spaces for students of the College of Fine Arts to show their work in a public forum. Grinter Gallery in Grinter Hall exhibits art created by international students and area artists, as well as traveling shows of internationally based art.

Music and Concerts

University of Florida Performing Arts hosts a variety of musical and theatrical events in three venues. The Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts attracts world-class symphony orchestras, Broadway plays, opera and large-scale ballet performances to its 1,800 seat facility. The University Auditorium includes a concert stage, seating for 867 and is suitable for musical concerts, special lectures, convocations and less technically demanding dance concerts and pageants. It is one of several university buildings included in the National Register of Historic Places. The Baughman Center is a small facility (seating capacity of 96) for silent meditation, public performances, weddings, memorial services, honorary society acknowledgments, and related types of activities.

UF's landmark Century Tower houses a cast-bell carillon; one of only four such instruments in Florida. Concerts are played on football and Commencement Saturdays and during other campus festive days, and fifteen-minute concerts are played most weekdays.

Florida Electroacoustic Music Studio (FEMS) hosts concerts of current music in the genre. This series, UnBalanced Connection, highlights works by students as well as established composers. Annually the School of Music, College of Fine Arts, the Center for the Performing Arts, and the FEMS present the Florida Electroacoustic Music Festival.

Student Government Productions sponsors performances by touring artists in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. Check the calendars of special events for upcoming concerts and dates.

Radio and Television

UF's College of Journalism and Communications is home to two television stations and four radio stations.

  • WUFT-TV, Channel 5, has been the home of Public Broadcasting in north central Florida since 1958. Programming on WUFT emphasizes British drama, political comedy, film classics, children's programming, musical specials of all varieties, and virtually "something for everyone". A weekday news broadcast, News 5, is the most complete daily student newscast in the nation.
  • WLUF-LP, Channel 10 (Cox Cable channel 6) is the cable system's educational channel, airing classes from the UF Warrington College of Business Administration as well as telecourses in conjunction with Santa Fe College. Educational programs from PBS and others are also offered.
  • WUFT-FM, Classic 89, is a 100,000-watt public radio station serving 16 counties in North Central Florida. Classic 89 presents a distinctive blend of sounds: classical, jazz, folk, and world music; national, state, and local news; and special musical performances and public affairs programs. 
  • WJUF-FM, Nature Coast 90, is a 20,000-watt repeater station located in Citrus County, which retransmits the WUFT signal to residents of the Nature Coast area.
  • WRUF-AM, AM850, was Gainesville's first local radio station and is one of the oldest in Florida. AM850 serves 13 counties with six hours of local news daily from its 5,000-watt transmitter. AM850 has been the home of Gator sports for more than 70 years.
  • WRUF-FM, ROCK104, is the top Active Rock station in the market. WRUF-FM, The Home of Gator Football, broadcasts its 100,000-watt signal to 16 counties. The station first went on the air in 1948 and has been ROCK104 since 1982.

Religious Life

The Campus Ministry Cooperative is a group of religious organizations formed to serve students, faculty and staff. Each organization seeks to enrich the lives of students, faculty, and staff by providing opportunities for growth through fellowship, educational programs, worship services, recreation, entertainment and the development of one's faith.

Theatre and Dance

The H.P. Constans Theatre, adjacent to the Reitz Union, houses a 420-seat proscenium theatre, and Stage Two, a black box theatre with approximately 40 seats. The Constans Theatre is home to the Florida Players, the student production program of the Department of Theatre and Dance. Performance dates and ticket information are available through the University Box Office. An addition to the Constans Theatre is scheduled for completion in August, 2003.

The Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts attracts world-class symphony orchestras, Broadway plays, opera and large-scale ballet performances to its 1,800 seat facility. The Phillips Center also hosts UF Department of Theatre and Dance productions as well as local ballet performances.

Tickets for events at the Constans Theatre, Phillips Center, O'Connell Center & various other campus venues are sold at the University of Florida Box Office.

Sports and Recreational Facilities

The University Athletic Association, Inc., is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at the University of Florida. UF fields teams in 18 sports: men's baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, swimming & diving, tennis, and track; and women's basketball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track and volleyball. Schedules and ticket information are available from the Gator Ticket Office.

The University of Florida Golf Course is available for use by faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The 18-hole course was completely renovated in 2001. Memberships are available.

Lake Wauburg North and South are outdoor recreation and park facilities owned and operated by the University of Florida. Located approximately 8 miles south of campus on US 441, Lake Wauburg facilities offer UF students, faculty, and staff a place to relax and have fun with friends and family. Many activities are available including boating, volleyball, a ropes course, and a climbing wall. Admission and activities are free with a Gator 1 Card. Large University groups may reserve the indoor Gator Lodge and open pavilions for picnics, parties, or meetings.

Living Well, an interdisciplinary program conducted by the College of Health and Human Performance, provides a work-site wellness program for faculty and staff. This program includes individualized fitness instruction, fitness assessments, medical screenings, and informative presentations on health related issues. A fully supervised workout facility is located in Yon Hall in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

The Division of Recreational Sports in the College of Health and Human Performance operates 2 fitness centers, 9 fields, 2 pools, 6 outdoor court facilities, and 2 gyms. Information about facility policies and hours is available on the Division's website. Members of Living Well are eligible to use many of these facilities at no addition cost.

The Stephen C. O'Connell Center houses an Olympic-sized swimming pool, dance studio, gymnastics studio, martial arts room, free style weight room, Nautilus center, track, badminton, volleyball courts, and practice basketball court in and around the perimeter of the 12,000 seat main arena.
